REWILDING IS THE THEME OF THE OSCARS® GREENROOM IN 2025
Geneva, 26 february 2025 - As Oscars® invitations go, none could be more coveted in the film industry than being welcomed to the famous Greenroom at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The biggest names in the film industry are in attendance, as Oscars® presenters, nominees and winners relax there amid their appearances at the Academy Awards ceremony. Hosted by Rolex since 2016, every year the brand reimagines the setting to create a novel, immersive experience.
In 2025, the Greenroom’s theme is restoration of the natural world, taking its inspiration from Rewilding Chile and Rewilding Argentina, supported by Rolex’s Perpetual Planet Initiative. Both are offspring of Tompkins Conservation, an acclaimed non-profit that protects and restores biodiversity. The room depicts landscapes devoid of fences where native species are returning to the wilderness, and nature is restoring their habitat. With an eye on sustainability, Rolex has employed textiles and light materials in its design. Layers of airy tulle have been imprinted to reveal the fluid contours and soft palette of a mountain landscape set off by lighting diffused through sheer curtains.
A grid of fine wood frames tulle that has been stretched across walls of the Greenroom, including the ceiling, in an elegant pattern. Across one side of the room, there is a sequence of cutouts representing native species, while the earthy colours and textures of the sofas, chairs and tables complete the canvas.
A WATCH FOR LEADERS
Also on display in the Greenroom is the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 in 18 ct Everose gold with a Sundust dial, fluted bezel and a President bracelet. Instantly recognizable, its unique design has forged its identity. At its launch, the Day-Date was the only watch with a semi-circular window at 12 o’clock displaying the day of the week spelt out in full. With its specially designed President bracelet available only in precious metal – gold or platinum – it is the watch of prestige par excellence. It is completely at home in a room full of many of the world’s leading actors and filmmakers.
ROLEX AND CINEMA
Rolex supports cinema, from the earliest stages of creation to the final crowning moment. Cinema is an adventure. A journey marked by challenges, each one to be overcome with passion and perseverance. Each film inspires the world. And while its watches play their own role on the wrists of legendary characters, Rolex partners with renowned institutions and leading figures in the film industry. Together, they promote technical and artistic achievement, writing the grand history of filmmaking.
In 2017, the Swiss watchmaker became the Exclusive Watch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Proud Sponsor of the Oscars® and, in 2018, Exclusive Sponsor of the Governors Awards. In 2021, Rolex also became a Founding Supporter and Official Watch of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The company also supports the Student Academy Awards and the outreach programme Academy100, which will help drive the future of the global film industry and the Academy.
Rolex promotes excellence, education, conservation of the art form and the rise of new talent. The Academy’s mission is to celebrate all aspects of the film industry, preserve its legacy for future generations, spark inspiration and connect global audiences through their passion for cinema. Hence, it is the convergence of values between Rolex and the Academy that is underscored through this long-term partnership.
AN UNRIVALLED REPUTATION FOR QUALITY AND EXPERTISE
Rolex is an integrated and independent Swiss watch manufacture. Headquartered in Geneva, the brand is recognized the world over for its expertise and the quality of its products – symbols of excellence, elegance and prestige. The movements of its Oyster Perpetual and Perpetual watches are certified by COSC, then tested inhouse for their precision, performance and reliability. The Superlative Chronometer certification, symbolized by the green seal, confirms that each watch has successfully undergone tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria. These are periodically validated by an independent external organization.
The word ‘Perpetual’ is inscribed on every Rolex Oyster watch. But more than just a word on a dial, it is a philosophy that embodies the company’s vision and values. Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of the company, instilled a notion of perpetual excellence that would drive the company forward. This led Rolex to pioneer the development of the wristwatch and numerous major watchmaking innovations, such as the Oyster, the first waterproof wristwatch, launched in 1926, and the Perpetual rotor self-winding mechanism, invented in 1931. In the course of its history, Rolex has registered over 600 patents. At its four sites in Switzerland, the brand designs, develops and produces the majority of its watch components, from the casting of the gold alloys to the machining, crafting, assembly and finishing of the movement, case, dial and bracelet. Furthermore, the brand is actively involved in supporting the arts and culture, sport and exploration, as well as those who are devising solutions to preserve the planet.
