Rolex Testimonee Carlos Alcaraz Wins the 2025 US Open Title: Another Chapter in an Epic Rivalry
Geneva, 8 September 2025 – On Sunday 7th September, in front of 23,700 spectators on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Carlos Alcaraz won a second US Open crown and reclaimed the World No.1 ranking. The New York crowd were treated to a display of supreme shot making, with Alcaraz and his fellow Rolex Testimonee Jannik Sinner once again pushing each other, and the sport, to new heights. The Spaniard’s all-court dynamism, focus and precision ultimately saw him triumph 6–2, 3–6, 6–1, 6–4 in 2 hours 42 minutes. This was the latest edition in Alcaraz and Sinner’s absorbing rivalry which brings the players to two Grand Slam® titles apiece in 2025. Rolex has been a steadfast supporter throughout their journeys to the top, as part of the Swiss watchmaker’s commitment to tennis since 1978. Now, almost 50 years later, Rolex clocks keep time at the four Grand Slam® tournaments, where the future of the sport unfolds point by point.
Alcaraz joined the Rolex family of Testimonees in 2022 and has since claimed six Grand Slam® titles, conquering every tennis surface. Addressing Sinner after the final, he said:
Half a century after the first night match was played at the US Open in 1975, the Rolex Testimonees returned to the bright lights of New York to contest the 15-day Grand Slam® season finale. Home favourites Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton continued their exceptional form as they cruised through the early rounds at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. A finalist in 2024, Fritz has become one of the most consistent competitors on the ATP Tour and reached the last eight at this year’s US Open. Despite claiming the Roland-Garros women’s singles title in June, their US compatriot Coco Gauff demonstrated immense bravery by announcing a new coaching appointment the week before the tournament. This commitment and champion spirit continues to define Gauff’s pursuit of excellence, qualities which Iga Świątek has similarly showcased throughout the 2025 season. The Polish No.1’s dedication and skill saw her reach the quarter-finals of all four Grand Slam® events and capture a maiden title at The Championships, Wimbledon.
The atmosphere, elevated tension and even higher stakes create a cauldron of intensity and energy at the US Open. A testament to its unique demands, Rolex Testimonee and 20-time Grand Slam® champion Roger Federer remains the last man to win back-to-back crowns at Flushing Meadows – where he claimed his fifth consecutive title in 2008. Federer reflected on achieving success in New York with Rolex by his side:
The US Open is the only Grand Slam® event which has been played every year since it was founded in 1881, and during this time, several members of the Rolex family have joined Federer in leaving an indelible mark on its history. Rod Laver, Chris Evert, Stefan Edberg, Pat Rafter and Justine Henin all tamed the conditions to lift the US Open trophy on multiple occasions during their careers. Reinforcing the brand’s legacy of championing tennis heroes across the decades, Rolex continues to recognize the players who not only exhibit a desire for greatness but also those who acknowledge a wider duty beyond the tennis court.
