ROLEX TESTIMONEE STÉFANOS TSITSIPÁS CLAIMS BACK-TO-BACK ROLEX MONTE-CARLO MASTERS TITLES
Monte-Carlo, Monaco, 18 April 2022 – Rolex Testimonee Stéfanos Tsitsipás has successfully defended his Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters title to claim a second Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Masters 1000 title – the highest category outside of the four Grand Slam® tournaments.
At the beautiful Monte-Carlo Country Club overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, Tsitsipás produced some of the finest tennis of his career throughout the competition. He emerged victorious after a commanding performance in the final, winning in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(3) to confirm his place among the game’s elite.
Playing with outstanding precision and focus, Tsitsipás became the sixth player to win back-to-back Monte-Carlo titles in the Open Era and emulated fellow Testimonee Björn Borg, who successfully defended his title in 1980.
Featuring in his fourth ATP Masters 1000 final, Tsitsipás struck his forehands with fierce topspin and accuracy to complete the one-hour, 34-minute victory. The World No. 5 dropped only one set during the week in which he produced consistent and aggressive tennis to capture his first title of the year.
Following the win, Tsitsipás said:
“It’s been an incredible week for me and I’m really proud that I could defend my title here. It was a tough second set and I managed to stay composed to finish the match off so I look forward to building on that performance for the remainder of the clay-court season.”
The Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters is a key event on the ATP Tour, offering players the perfect opportunity to hone their clay-court skills ahead of Roland-Garros in Paris, the only Grand Slam tournament played on clay.
Rolex's relationship with tennis began in 1978 when it became Official Timekeeper of The Championships, Wimbledon, the sport’s oldest most revered tournament. Since then, the Swiss watchmaker has become synonymous with tennis globally, extending its support to all four Grand Slam events. Rolex now partners the leading players and the organisations that administer the game, as well as other prestigious tournaments.
