Following his triumph on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz, said:

This is something that I have always dreamt of since I was a kid. To be the World No. 1 and a Grand Slam® champion is something that I have worked so hard for. There are a lot of emotions right now. I am just 19 years old. This is something that is really, really special for me.

On his route to the final, the Spaniard became the youngest US Open men’s singles finalist since 1990. He continued his great rivalry with f
ellow Testimonee Jannik Sinner, who also had a superb tournament. The Italian narrowly lost to Alcaraz in a record-breaking quarter-final match – the second-longest match in the history of the US Open, lasting five hours and 15 minutes.
