Rolex Testimonee Carlos Alcaraz Triumphantly Defends His Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Singles Title
On Sunday 14 July, Rolex Testimonee Carlos Alcaraz soared to victory at The Championships, Wimbledon, securing a second consecutive gentlemen’s singles title. A captivated 15,000-strong crowd watched on Centre Court as the young Spaniard demonstrated his immense talent, precision and courageous spirit to take victory, 6–2, 6–2, 7–6, in 2 hours and 21 minutes. In winning his fourth Grand Slam® title, the 21-year-old has achieved the Roland-Garros-Wimbledon double, famously one of the most challenging feats in professional tennis, requiring players to successfully transition from clay to grass in just a few weeks. Rolex has supported tennis excellence since it partnered Wimbledon in 1978 and, for almost half a century, the Swiss watchmaker has witnessed the making of legends at this temple of tennis.
Alcaraz joins an elite list of nine men who have successfully defended their Wimbledon titles. Among them is Rolex Testimonee Roger Federer, who achieved the same feat 20 years ago, in 2004, as he forged his path to becoming an icon of the sport. Discussing how it feels to follow in the footsteps of Federer and lift the Wimbledon trophy for the second time, Alcaraz says:
His second Wimbledon victory means that Alcaraz is just the fourth man to win four Grand Slam® titles at the age of 21. Having joined the Rolex family in early 2022, Alcaraz went on to win the US Open the same year – becoming the youngest World No. 1 male player in tennis history at the age of 19. A year on from winning his first Wimbledon crown and more recently Roland-Garros, Alcaraz lifted the gentlemen’s singles trophy wearing his treasured Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona which has accompanied him during many career highlights. Alcaraz adds:
Since Wimbledon was first played in 1877, several members of the Rolex family of Testimonees have triumphed at the tournament. These include Rod Laver, Björn Borg, Chris Evert, Stefan Edberg, Garbiñe Muguruza, Roger Federer and Angelique Kerber, with Alcaraz etching his name onto the iconic Wimbledon winners’ board once again.
