ROLEX TESTIMONEE MARTIN FUCHS MAKES HISTORY IN THE ROLEX GRAND PRIX AT THE CHIO AACHEN 2025
On Sunday, 6 July, Rolex Testimonee Martin Fuchs demonstrated his remarkable talent and determination once again by achieving a record breaking fifth Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping Major since the concept’s inception in 2013, in the esteemed Rolex Grand Prix at the CHIO Aachen 2025. Aboard the masterful Leone Jei, the World No.7 delivered a flawless treble-clear performance against a world-class field of show jumpers.
Steeped in history and prestige, the CHIO Aachen welcomed over 360,000 passionate equestrian enthusiasts, over 10 days of world-class equestrian competition, which ran this year from 27 June - 6 July. The show’s pinnacle class, the Rolex Grand Prix, rewards precision and consistency, qualities demonstrated in abundance by Fuchs and reflected in Rolex’s own commitment to perpetual excellence in its watchmaking.
Renowned for delivering iconic moments, the Rolex Grand Prix, once again lived up to its reputation with Fuchs’ impressive victory. The world’s elite 40 horse and rider combinations - including six Rolex Testimonees - took on the Frank Rothenberger designed course. Fuchs’ demonstration of extraordinary precision, athleticism and speed over the three challenging courses delighted the 45,000 passionate spectators.
The three-round format involved the top 18 combinations from the first round going through to a second round, with only the double clears progressing to a jump-off against the clock. In total, 11 riders made it through to the jump-off, which saw Fuchs take over the lead from compatriot, and fellow Rolex Testimonee, Steve Guerdat, with just four combinations remaining. Whilst USA’s Laura Kraut came close as last to go, no-one was able to match Fuchs’ agility and pace.
Speaking about how it feels to have won the most Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping Majors since the concept’s initiation in 2013, Fuchs said: “To be honest, today, I’m just so happy and grateful to win the Rolex Grand Prix here in Aachen, I feel like it’s the most special one and most exclusive and traditional Grand Prix to win in our sport, so I’m delighted with this. I am incredibly happy to have a partner in Leone Jei who performs at these Majors like no other horse does.”
Fuchs hails from a family deeply rooted in equestrian sport and this notable achievement follows in the footsteps of his uncle, Markus Fuchs, who won the prestigious Grand Prix of Aachen in 2004. Fuchs also joins an esteemed group of Rolex Testimonees to have claimed a victory in this revered class including Daniel Deusser (2021), Kent Farrington (2019), Scott Brash (2015) Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum (2005), and Rodrigo Pessoa (1994).
Fuchs will now travel to the CSIO Spruce Meadow ‘Masters’ Tournament, the third Rolex Major in 2025, as the live contender of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. Looking ahead to this esteemed event, where Fuchs will be looking to claim his third successive title, Fuchs added: “The CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament has been a very good show for us, Leone Jei loves it there, as he does here in Aachen, so we will go to Spruce Meadows with a very good feeling and try to do our best.”
For almost seven decades, Rolex has built a lasting legacy within the equestrian world, establishing itself as a prominent partner of the sport’s most distinguished riders, events, and institutions. The Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping sits at the heart of this ideal, rewarding the rider who consecutively wins the Grand Prix at three of the four Majors: The Dutch Masters, the CHIO Aachen, the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament and the CHI Geneva.
