ROLEX TESTIMONEE DANIEL DEUSSER WINS PRESTIGIOUS CP ‘INTERNATIONAL’, PRESENTED BY ROLEX AT SPRUCE MEADOWS
Calgary, Canada, 12 September 2022 –Rolex Testimonee Daniel Deusser overcame fierce competition from the world’s best show jumping riders on Sunday to claim victory in the CP ‘International’, presented by Rolex, the feature event at the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament.
At the revered showgrounds in the foothills of the Alberta Rocky Mountains in Canada, the German produced a masterful display with his horse Killer Queen VDM to capture the prestigious five-star Grand Prix, and in so doing, becomes the new live contender of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping.
The winning combination performed with outstanding precision, athleticism, and teamwork to master the testing course set by designer Leopoldo Palacios.
It was an impressive afternoon of performances from an international field of riders, with only three making it to the third-round jump-off; Rolex Testimonees Daniel Deusser and Steve Guerdat, with Gilles Thomas from Belgium. Guerdat, hoping to hold on to his 2021 title, took to the testing jump-off course first, but had an unfortunate single pole down. Thomas rode next and knocked two poles leaving the door open for Deusser as last to go. After an extraordinary effort from Killer Queen VDM and a remarkable display of precise and calculated accuracy from Deusser, they were the only rider and horse combination from the 40 starters to achieve three consecutive clears rounds and were consequently named Winners of the 2022 CP ‘International’, presented By Rolex, adding yet another Rolex Grand Slam Major title to an impressive resume.
Commenting on his win, Deusser said:
“I am really, really proud of my horse and my win today, being part of the Rolex Grand Slam here at Spruce Meadows and one of the Rolex Majors is an unbelievable feeling. Spruce Meadows has such a special atmosphere, especially for us riders. It’s our first year competing in front of an audience again and when you come to Spruce Meadows and there’s a full house with so much enthusiasm, it’s an amazing feeling. Having that atmosphere gives myself and my horse a little bit extra.”
