THE JOURNEY TO AUTOMOTIVE EXCELLENCE AWAITS ON MONTEREY PENINSULA
Geneva, 6 August 2025 – For more than 70 years, California has welcomed spectators from across the globe to revel in its week-long automotive festivities. The area’s love affair with cars started with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® in the 1950s. Since then, a formidable annual line-up of events has been established on Monterey Peninsula, all honouring the evolution of motoring style and engineering, and their influence on society today. Rolex, a steadfast presence at these gatherings for close to three decades, this year marks its 20th anniversary as the Official Timepiece of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.
Rolex Testimonee Jenson Button is a familiar face on and off the track, drawn to the events by his passion for racing and classic cars. He says:
The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion starts the week's proceedings with roaring track activity. This year’s edition runs from Wednesday 13 to Saturday 16 August and will welcome more than 400 cars from across 12 decades to the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Button will serve as the Grand Marshal of the event in honour of his affinity with historic racing cars and golden career in motor sport. With dramatic elevations, notably the infamous Corkscrew turn, the 3.602 kilometre (2.238 mile) track provides a steep challenge for drivers and their machines, racing wheel-to-wheel in awe-inspiring displays. Rolex first partnered with the Reunion in 2001, recognizing the event’s quest to uphold motor sport heritage and ensure each vehicle is a true representation of its time. The Swiss watchmaker further reinforced its support by becoming Title Sponsor in 2010.
The focus then shifts from the track to the coast. On Thursday 14 August the morning mist will lift to unveil more than 150 cars lined up on Portola Road for the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance® presented by Rolex. At the start line from 7.00 a.m. local time, enthusiasts are provided with a rare opportunity to see these exquisite vehicles up close and meet the owners who have lovingly maintained and restored them. The sound of engines at 9.30 a.m. signals the start of their 70-mile loop from Pebble Beach along the 17-Mile Drive and Highway One to Big Sur and back. More than just a journey, it is a test of functionality and performance prior to the judging at the acclaimed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®.
On Friday 15 August, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering will offer a glimpse of the world’s latest automotive innovations and exceptional cars from years gone by. Launched in 2003, and with Rolex by its side for 20 years, The Quail has become one of the most important motoring events. It is here that many of the leading manufactures choose to launch their avant-garde creations, with more than 20 cars unveiled in 2024. This year’s event will comprise the eight traditional classes, alongside featured categories highlighting significant anniversaries. While the beauty and craftsmanship of the cars take centre stage, at the heart of the event are the people, with the Rolex Best of Show recognizing individual endeavour and relentless dedication to preserving the winning automobile.
Reflecting on Rolex's partnership with the event, Button continues:
The week’s activities conclude on Sunday 17 August at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, where cars first seen on the Tour line up on the fairways of the Pebble Beach Golf Links®. Timeless style meets automotive design at this highly anticipated grand finale. In 2025, the event celebrates the centennials of three esteemed marques, namely Invicta, Chrysler and Moretti, along with the 60th anniversary of the legendary Shelby Cobra 427. These historically significant cars are judged by experts from the automobile world, who determine the Best of Show based on originality, authenticity and elegance. As the festivities draw to a close, Rolex presents a specially engraved Perpetual 1908 to the Best of Show winner, a reward for their journey to uphold motoring heritage and excellence.
With its watches keeping time on motor sport history since the 1930s, Rolex is committed to preserving the achievements of the past. Across these four events, the Swiss watchmaker continues to acknowledge the unique charm of each one, where automotive innovations and traditions continue to inspire creations on racetracks around the world today.
ROLEX AND MOTOR SPORT
Rolex celebrates human achievement, recognizing the journey marked by milestones and emotions that culminates in defining moments – determined by a path followed, not just a trophy. Since then, Rolex’s support has grown, extending to the sport’s most esteemed figures, revered endurance championships and leading events.
