ROLEX CHAMPIONS FORMULA 1® AND ITS HEROES IN 2024
Geneva, 26 February 2024 – The 75th FIA Formula One World Championship™ starts this week in Bahrain, with the opening round taking place from 29 February–2 March. The sport continues to reach new heights, with the 2024 calendar increasing to 24 races across five continents and running to December. Rolex has supported Formula 1®, the pinnacle of motor sport, as a Global Partner and the Official Timepiece, since 2013. This partnership is founded on a mutual quest to push the boundaries of human endeavour and innovation by championing driver and machine as they strive for perfect harmony.
Rolex Testimonee and multiple Formula 1® Grand Prix™ winner Mark Webber remains heavily involved in the sport, mentoring the next generation of drivers as they strive for success in this highly competitive environment. Looking ahead to the forthcoming season, Webber says:
This season sees the regulations introduced in 2022 continue into their third year and with no driver changes, the 10 teams will rely on consistency and stability in their pursuit of the ultimate performance. Synonymous with Formula 1® and present at every Grand Prix™ is the Rolex Pit Lane Clock, symbolic of the importance of timing and precision in motor sport. The Swiss watchmaker is set to return as the Title Sponsor of the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2024 from 22–24 March and the FORMULA 1 ROLEX BELGIAN GRAND PRIX 2024 from 26–28 July.
Rolex continues to support the technical evolution at the forefront of Formula 1® while also partnering with some of its most distinguished figures. The brand’s association with Formula 1® dates back to 1968 when Sir Jackie Stewart became a Rolex Testimonee. In 2024, Sir Jackie marks 55 years since he secured his first FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Championship at Monza, Italy, in 1969. Reflecting on the affinity between Rolex and Formula 1®, Sir Jackie says:
Rolex Testimonee Jenson Button also celebrates a milestone in 2024; it is 15 years since he clinched the 2009 FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Championship at Interlagos, Brazil. Taking victory in six of the opening seven races, Button and the Brawn GP team were a force to be reckoned with in this fairy tale season. Button says:
ROLEX AND MOTOR SPORT
Rolex’s close ties with motor sport date back to Sir Malcolm Campbell’s World Land Speed Record successes in the 1930s, when he became the first driver to break the 300 mph barrier (483 km/h) at the wheel of his car, Bluebird. Since then, Rolex’s presence in motor racing has grown steadily, its support extending to revered endurance events such as the Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship. In 2013, Rolex became associated with Formula 1®, the pinnacle of motor sport, having supported Rolex Testimonee Sir Jackie Stewart since 1968. The three-time FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion has been joined by fellow high achievers from the world of motor sport: Tom Kristensen, the record nine-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, Mark Webber, the multiple Formula 1® race winner and 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion, and Jenson Button, the 2009 FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion. Most recently, Jamie Chadwick, Indy NXT driver, three-time W Series champion and the sport's most exciting young female talent became part of the Rolex family. The brand also has a global appreciation for classic automotive events steeped in elegance, beauty and tradition, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and the Goodwood Revival.
