ROLEX AND MOTOR SPORT: ANTICIPATING A TRIUMPHANT 2025 SEASON

Geneva, 25 February 2025 Renowned for its enduring association with motor sport, Rolex embraces another year of racing and automotive excellence. Celebrating human achievement in motor sport since the 1930s, the Swiss watchmaker honours the journey to success in this demanding sport which is defined by milestones and emotions. With the 2025 season firmly underway following January’s Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, focus now turns to the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The series, which begins in Qatar from Wednesday 26 to Friday 28 February, comprises eight races staged across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America and South America. Rolex has been the Official Timepiece of the FIA World Endurance Championship since 2016, supporting the relentless perseverance and determination needed to meet the challenges posed throughout the series.

For nearly a century, the Swiss watchmaker has nurtured relationships with the world’s leading championships and most prestigious events, as well as legendary drivers. Rolex Testimonee Tom Kristensen is among these high achievers, holding a record nine overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and an unmatched remarkable six wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Reflecting on Rolex’s presence in the sport, he says:

“In both watchmaking and endurance racing, persistent precision and mastering time is key. You need skill and accuracy to optimize the materials to develop an incredible result. That’s why Rolex’s partnerships in motor sport are the perfect match – it is the coming together of the toughest races and the most prestigious watch brand in the world.”

Having been crowned the 2013 FIA World Endurance Drivers’ Champion, Kristensen shares his insight on the championship’s growth:

“The series is in a fantastic state, with great competition and regulations that are allowing new manufacturers and drivers to join the sport. Looking ahead to this season, it’s only going to get better – closer racing and even more talented drivers, with many iconic circuits.”

This year, the grid is expected to feature 36 entries, with each Hypercar manufacturer entering at least two cars to heighten the spectacle and ensure a level playing field. In recognition of their pursuit of excellence, the series' winning drivers will be awarded a specially engraved Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona at the end of the season.

Rolex Testimonee and 2009 FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion Jenson Button returns to the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2025, having made his debut last season. Reflecting on his inaugural year, Button says:

“I have learnt so much and I find it incredibly rewarding that at 45 years old, I am still learning and improving as a driver. Working with teammates has also taught me a lot about compromise; as drivers we are naturally selfish, a characteristic which does not prevail in the WEC. I am very much looking forward to this season and I feel we have the potential to fight at the front and win races.”

The most celebrated event on the 2025 FIA World Endurance Championship calendar is the 24 Hours of Le Mans – a spectacle of speed since 1923, it stands as the world's oldest and most prestigious endurance race. Rolex has partnered the 24 Hours of Le Mans since 2001 as the Official Timepiece and Exclusive Major Partner. This year, Rolex Testimonee Jamie Chadwick will make her debut at the event, in the LMP2 category with IDEC Sport while competing in the European Le Mans Series.

Recognizing the need to preserve motoring tradition, Rolex has supported some of the world’s most esteemed classic automotive events for over 25 years, since it first partnered with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance® in 1997. As the 2025 season unfolds, Rolex will continue this legacy, paying tribute to motoring excellence through its long-standing presence at these prestigious gatherings. Steeped in elegance and beauty, the Swiss watchmaker partners the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance® presented by Rolex, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering – in 2025 this partnership reaches its 20th anniversary milestone – and the Goodwood Revival.

ROLEX AND MOTOR SPORT

Rolex celebrates human achievement, recognizing the journey marked by milestones and emotions that culminates in defining moments – determined by a path followed, not just a trophy. In motor sport this association started in the 1930s when Sir Malcolm Campbell set World Land Speed Records on Daytona Beach with a Rolex on his wrist. Since then, the brand’s support has grown, extending to the sport’s most esteemed figures, revered endurance championships and other leading events. This relationship encompasses the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and the contests that together form the Triple Crown of Endurance Racing – the Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For almost three decades, Rolex has also supported classic automotive events steeped in elegance, beauty and tradition, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and the Goodwood Revival. Rolex welcomed motor sport legend Sir Jackie Stewart into its family of Testimonees in 1968 and he has since been joined by fellow high achievers: Tom Kristensen, the record nine-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans; Mark Webber, the 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion and multiple Grand Prix™ winner; Jenson Button, the 2009 FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion who is currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship; and Jamie Chadwick, a pioneer for women in motor sport who this year is contesting the European Le Mans Series.
