Rolex Testimonee Carlos Alcaraz Claims An Historic Grand-Slam® Title At Roland-Garros 2024
Rolex Testimonee Carlos Alcaraz clinched his maiden Roland-Garros singles title on Sunday 9 June, becoming the first male player to win his first three Grand Slam® titles on three different surfaces. In front of a packed Court Philippe-Chatrier, Alcaraz secured a sensational five-set victory with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2 in 4 hours and 19 minutes to lift the Musketeers’ trophy. Despite arriving in Paris with minimal preparation, the 21-year-old displayed masterful tennis in challenging conditions over the fortnight to join the long list of Spaniards to win the pinnacle clay-court tournament. The speed, creativity and skill that defines Alcaraz’s dynamic game is inspiring a new generation of tennis enthusiasts, with his dedication and passion aligning with Rolex’s long-standing commitment to the sport. Having supported tennis excellence for more than 40 years, the Swiss watchmaker completed the calendar Grand Slam® of partnerships in 2019, by becoming Official Timekeeper of Roland-Garros.
During the prize-giving ceremony, tennis legend Björn Borg presented his fellow Rolex Testimonee Alcaraz with the Mustketeers’ trophy on the same court where he won his first Grand Slam® title half a century ago. After his win Alcaraz said:
The Spaniard joined the Rolex family in early 2022 and that same year claimed his first Grand Slam® title at the US Open – becoming the youngest World No. 1 in tennis history at the age of 19. In 2023, Alcaraz lifted the gentlemen’s singles trophy at The Championships, Wimbledon and more recently won his fifth ATP Masters 1000 tournament at Indian Wells in March. Alcaraz’s remarkable career achievements, combined with his on-court demeanour have made him one of the sport’s brightest rising stars and a crowd favourite the world-over.
Alcaraz joins fellow members of the Rolex family of Testimonees who have achieved victory at Roland-Garros: Rod Laver, Chris Evert, Björn Borg, Jim Courier, Justine Henin, Ana Ivanović, Roger Federer, Li Na, Garbiñe Muguruza and Iga Świątek, who on Saturday claimed her fourth women’s singles title. Meanwhile, Coco Gauff triumphed in the women’s doubles, delivering a trio of trophies for Rolex’s Testimonees at Roland-Garros in 2024.
