Rolex expands the Perpetual collection through the addition of a watch with an instantaneous complete annual calendar: the Perpetual Padellone, which brings precision and poetry together in a new way. This refined creation, which displays the date, day, month and moonphase as well as the hours, minutes and seconds, is equipped with pioneering technical innovations. Its harmonious design strikes a perfect balance between traditional and contemporary styles. Named after an earlier Rolex timepiece with a complete calendar – reference 8171, known to collectors as the ‘Padellone’ – this new model represents a natural continuation of the brand’s heritage. With its moonphase disc that links the rhythm of the Moon with that of the Earth, it offers a window onto the night sky.

The dial of the Padellone is decorated with a grained finish across most of its surface and a fine satin finish around the edge. A blue centre hand, with a crescent moon at its tip, points to the current date on this periphery, where the date scale is inscribed in black. Two apertures positioned at 12 o’clock indicate the day and month, respectively; these are shown in English. A blue enamelled disc at 6 o’clock makes one complete rotation every lunar month, or 29.53 days. The full moon and new moon on this disc are made from meteorite – the second of the two treated with a dark blue PVD coating – and the silver stars are pad printed. The case, 39 mm in diameter, is mounted with a bezel that is both domed and subtly fluted. The transparent case back allows the technical sophistication and decorations of the movement to be admired, including bridges embellished with Rolex Côtes de Genève and a cut-out oscillating weight in yellow gold.

This new watch is proposed in 18 ct Everose gold with a grained-finish, intense white dial and a Settimo bracelet, fitted with a concealed Crownclasp. It is also available in a 950 platinum version, featuring a grained-finish, ice blue dial and a matt black alligator leather strap with a Dualclasp. A third version, crafted in the same gold as the first and also adopting a grained-finish, intense white dial, is mounted on a matt brown alligator leather strap equipped with a Dualclasp.

At the heart of the Padellone beats calibre 7190, protected by 30 patent applications, two of which are exclusive to it. This movement at the cutting edge of horological research stands out for its frequency of 5 hertz. Thinner than the majority of Rolex movements – a feature it shares with the two other calibres in the 71XX family – it nonetheless offers exceptional performance. The Padellone’s movement is based on the design of calibre 7135, unveiled on the Land-Dweller at the watch’s launch in 2025, and benefits from the same pioneering regulating system, composed of the high-performance Dynapulse escapement and a state-of-the-art oscillator. The mechanism of the annual calendar integrated within calibre 7190 is particularly innovative and reliable. It is based on an entirely new system named Haplos. A patent application has been filed for this system, which consists of only two components coupled to the date mechanism: an additional carrier finger and an annual lever. Another technical innovation: the annual calendar programming is incorporated into the reverse side of the month disc, informing the annual lever of the current month. The changes of date, day and month take place instantaneously at midnight – a feature for which a patent application has also been filed.

Like all Rolex watches, the Perpetual Padellone carries the Superlative Chronometer certification, with strengthened criteria since 2026, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist.

With its instantaneous change of date, day and month at midnight, the Padellone illustrates Rolex’s mastery of calendar jump mechanisms.

HARMONIOUS CASE
The Padellone is housed in a 39 mm case, with graceful lines and a transparent back that allows the detailed aesthetics of the movement to be admired. The middle case features correctors on the sides for the calendar functions, and the curve of the lugs is highlighted thanks to a gentle chamfering on their top edges. The bezel is divided – the lower part enhanced with elegant fluting and the upper part domed. Made of sapphire, the domed crystal and the transparent case back benefit from an anti-reflective coating. Guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 50 metres (165 feet), the case provides optimal protection for the movement nestled inside. It is crafted in 18 ct Everose gold or 950 platinum.

ELEGANT BRACELETS
The Padellone in 18 ct Everose gold is fitted on a Settimo bracelet or a matt brown alligator leather strap. In its 950 platinum version, the watch is paired with a matt black alligator leather strap.

The Settimo bracelet exudes refinement and elegance and feels particularly lightweight. Thanks to its links made up of seven very small, slightly contoured link elements, polished on every surface, it gently hugs the shape of the wrist, making it extremely comfortable to wear. With a special system to attach it to the middle case, for which a patent application has been filed, this metal bracelet is furnished with a concealed folding Crownclasp, ensuring seamless visual harmony across its surface.

The Padellone’s matt brown or matt black alligator leather strap has a green calfskin lining and tone-on-tone stitching. It is equipped with a Dualclasp, a double folding clasp. Thanks to its carefully designed shape, this clasp always sits centred on the wrist.

CALIBRE 7190
The Padellone is equipped with calibre 7190, a movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, unveiled this year and exclusive to this watch. A distillation of technology, this self-winding mechanical movement delivers outstanding performance, particularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability. It takes account of 30-day and 31-day months, thanks to the patented Haplos system, consisting of two components added to the instantaneous date mechanism. Calibre 7190 exhibits carefully finished aesthetics, notably bridges featuring Rolex Côtes de Genève – a decoration that differs from traditional Côtes de Genève for the slight polished groove between each band – and an oscillating weight fashioned in yellow gold and cut out.

Calibre 7190 incorporates the Dynapulse escapement, which combines excellent energy efficiency with great dependability. This sequential distribution escapement made of silicon is resistant to strong magnetic fields. Inaugurated on calibre 7135 of the Land-Dweller, which was launched in 2025, it is the subject of seven patent applications.

The movement is also fitted with a Syloxi hairspring. This patented hairspring is made of silicon, a material that enables it to withstand strong magnetic fields, while also providing great thermal stability and high shock resistance. The hairspring’s geometry, which is also patented, ensures the calibre’s regularity in any position. In calibre 7190, the coils of the Syloxi are especially thick, to confer greater rigidity. This modification grants more power to the hairspring – an essential factor for the movement to beat at 5 hertz.

The oscillator of calibre 7190 also demonstrates excellent resistance to strong magnetic fields. It comprises a balance staff made from high-technology ceramic, patented and exclusive to Rolex, and a balance wheel in optimized brass (an alloy which, like the ceramic, withstands high-intensity magnetic fields). The oscillator is also mounted on optimized high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers which, in addition to further enhancing the movement’s shock resistance, ensure optimal repositioning of the balance staff after a shock and enable it to pivot smoothly and regularly in any position.

Calibre 7190 is equipped with a self-winding system via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of this movement extends to approximately 66 hours.

SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION
The Perpetual Padellone is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification. This exclusive designation is issued to each watch leaving the Rolex workshops, attesting to its excellent performance on the wrist. This in-house certification is strictly controlled by internationally recognized, independent Swiss entities.

Since 2026, the Superlative Chronometer certification has included three new testing criteria: resistance to magnetism, reliability and sustainability. These criteria are implemented throughout the design and manufacturing stages of each timepiece – hundreds of checks and validations directly related to the watch’s performance are carried out during these phases. They supplement the criteria established when the certification was redefined in 2015 governing precision, waterproofness, self-winding and autonomy. That year, Rolex set up an exclusive testing protocol for its finished watches, conducted inside the manufacture on fully automated equipment. The precision requirements are particularly stringent: measured after casing the movement – officially certified as a chronometer – the watch’s accuracy must be between –2 and +2 seconds per day. The rate deviation tolerated by the brand for the precision of a finished watch is significantly smaller than that accepted for official certification of the movement alone.

The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
