KENT FARRINGTON, WINNER OF THE ROLEX GRAND PRIX & SCOTT BRASH, WINNER OF THE ROLEX IJRC TOP 10 FINAL

On Sunday 14 September, Rolex Testimonee Kent Farrington reaffirmed his position at the top of the world rankings, delivering a masterclass of speed, precision and composure to win the prestigious Rolex Grand Prix at the CHI Geneva 2025. In a field of 40 of the world’s most elite horse-and-rider combinations, Farrington and his remarkable partner Greya produced two flawless rounds, securing a commanding victory. With this triumph, Farrington becomes the new Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping live contender, marking another achievement in an already extraordinary career.

To win the Rolex Grand Prix at the CHI Geneva, competitors must test the limits of their abilities. Accuracy, courage and athleticism are demanded in equal measure from both horse and rider to master the challenging courses, and Farrington demonstrated these qualities in abundance. The World No.1 from the United States of America was hungry for the win, and he and his 11-year-old mount Greya cleared Gérard Lachat and Gregory Bodo’s first round and jump-off courses with confidence, working in harmony under immense pressure to finish over a second faster than Irishman Shane Sweetnam and partner James Kann Cruz, who secured second place.

Alongside Farrington, seven other horse-and-rider combinations progressed to the jump-off. Fellow Rolex Testimonee Sophie Hinners and her partner Iron Dames Singclair were among the competitors, and Hinners delivered an exceptional clear round to secure an honourable fourth place, using Iron Dames Singclair’s natural scope and power to finish just 0.14 seconds behind third-placed Thibeau Spits and Impress-k Van't Kattenheye Z.

This year, Rolex celebrated 25 years as Title Sponsor of the CHI Geneva Rolex Grand Prix – a milestone that underscores the brand’s long-standing dedication to one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions. Part of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping, the CHI Geneva Rolex Grand Prix is a defining example of how the brand has elevated equestrian sport by supporting the world’s finest riders, competitions and institutions, with Rolex proudly serving as Presenting Sponsor of the CHI Geneva since 1996. Alongside Farrington, who also won the Rolex Grand Prix at the CHI Geneva in 2017 with Gazelle, a further six Rolex Testimonees have claimed the title: Richard Vogel (2023), Martin Fuchs (2019, 2021), Steve Guerdat (2006, 2013, 2015), Scott Brash (2014), Kevin Staut (2010) and Rodrigo Pessoa (2002, 2004).

Reflecting on his victory after a hugely successful year, Farrington said: “I am delighted with how Greya performed today. She is a fantastic horse and I am proud of everyone who has been involved throughout the season. I am lucky to have a great team around me, including the best vets, farriers and grooms, for example, who help us to achieve such success on days like today.”

Earlier in the week, on Friday 12 December, Farrington was also successful in the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final, where he finished second to fellow Rolex Testimonee Scott Brash, who won in exceptional fashion by the narrowest of margins.

Rolex has supported the prestigious Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final since its inception in 2001. This unique competition is comparable to the Nitto ATP Finals or WTA Finals in tennis and gathers the world’s top 10 riders for two exhilarating rounds of competition. In this year’s edition, Brash, the current World No.2, performed with the utmost excellence, as he and Hello Chadora Lady – a 12-year-old bay mare owned by Lady Pauline Harris and Lady Pauline Kirkham – delivered two perfect, precision-focused rounds to secure the Briton his second Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final title, 11 years on from his first in 2014.

The 2025 edition featured an exceptional line-up, including past Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final challengers as well as exciting new names. In the opening round, riders competed in reverse order of their rankings, meaning Rolex Testimonee Steve Guerdat was first to take on the challenging 12-fence course. Rising to the occasion, the three-time Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final winner produced a spotless clear round, setting an early benchmark for the nine riders to follow. Gilles Thomas, 2025 European Show Jumping Championship bronze medallist, along with Rolex Testimonees Scott Brash and Kent Farrington, were the only others to jump clear in the first round.

In the decisive second round, Brash returned to the arena as the penultimate competitor, and the double Olympic gold medallist capitalised on Hello Chadora Lady’s natural athleticism and carefulness to deliver a fast, faultless performance that even Farrington could not surpass. Despite producing a courageous round aboard Toulayna, Farrington’s time was just 0.16 seconds slower, earning him second place in the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final for the second consecutive year. Rolex Testimonees completed the podium, with Richard Vogel and Cloudio securing third for Germany.

Reflecting on his second Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final win, Brash commented: "For me, the Rolex IJRC Top 10 Final is the most competitive class I have competed in. Any one of the riders can win it. I think there were some amazing rounds and if you were to run that class a few times, you would get different results each time. I was very pleased with Hello Chadora Lady – she did so well, and I was very proud of her."

Following the conclusion of the CHI Geneva, the final Rolex Grand Slam Major of 2025, the equestrian world now turns its attention to The Dutch Masters in March 2026, where all eyes will be on Farrington as he continues his pursuit of the sport’s ultimate prize – the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping – which to date, has only been achieved by Rolex Testimonee Scott Brash. The Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping is awarded to any rider who claims victory in three consecutive Rolex Grand Slam Majors, namely; The Dutch Masters, the CHIO Aachen, the CSIO Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ Tournament, and the CHI Geneva.
