ROLEX TESTIMONEE JANNIK SINNER REIGNS SUPREME BECOMING A THREE-TIME GRAND SLAM® CHAMPION

Melbourne Park, 26 January 2025 – Rolex Testimonee Jannik Sinner claimed the first men’s Grand Slam® singles title of the season, and the third of his career, at the 2025 Australian Open on Sunday 26 January. As the Melbourne sun set over Rod Laver Arena, the 15,000 spectators witnessed a masterclass of skill and precision, with the Italian triumphing 6–3, 7–6, 6–3 in 2 hours and 42 minutes, to lift the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup for the second successive year. Rolex has championed human endeavour at the highest levels of tennis for almost half a century, further reinforcing its commitment by becoming Official Timekeeper of the Australian Open in 2008.

Reflecting on how it felt to return to Australia and defend his maiden Grand Slam® title, Sinner, who joined the Rolex family of Testimonees in 2020, says:

It’s an amazing feeling to share this moment with my team. For me, this is the most special Grand Slam and the support has been incredible. These are the moments I practise for – to be on the big stages in the biggest moments of my career. The first time I wore a Rolex was in Australia and I feel very honoured to be in this position again.

The 15 days of action saw rivalries reignited and new coaching partnerships come to fruition as the sport’s leading players jostled for supremacy at Melbourne Park, with record crowds of more than 1.2 million attending this year's event. While only two champions would eventually tame the unrelenting conditions to secure singles glory, Rolex Testimonees were the source of many moments that illuminated the fortnight of tennis. At just 17 years of age, Mirra Andreeva demonstrated immense composure to win the first match of the tournament in straight sets and proceed to the fourth round. The 18-year-old Brazilian João Fonseca followed suit, with his talent and baseline prowess earning him victory against a top 10 seed in his maiden Grand Slam® main draw match – having come through three rounds of qualifying without dropping a set.

From rising talents to established champions, Rolex remains steadfast in its support of players across the men’s and women’s game. Making a return to Grand Slam® tennis after the birth of her daughter last year, Belinda Bencic played with her characteristic finesse to overcome higher-ranked opponents and set up an absorbing fourth-round encounter with fellow Testimonee Coco Gauff. The American came into the tournament in sensational form, with new technical elements complementing her dynamic style of play, ensuring her a place in the quarter-finals. Five-time Grand Slam® champion Iga Świątek dropped just 14 games on her remarkable run to a closely contested semi-final. On the men’s side, reigning Roland-Garros and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz captivated audiences en route to the quarter-finals, while his contemporary Holger Rune won three colossal contests before coming up against Sinner. The World No. 1 went on to face Ben Shelton in an all-Rolex Testimonee semi-final, before reclaiming the title on Sunday.

The 2025 Australian Open celebrated the 25th anniversary of Rod Laver Arena being renamed in honour of Rolex legend, Rod Laver. The Australian is the only player in the history of the men’s game to have achieved the calendar Grand Slam® on two occasions, paving the way for today’s players to make their mark on his eponymous court. Laver says:

I really enjoyed competing in the four Grand Slams during my career. They are all very different and they are the tournaments every player wants to win. It’s amazing to reflect on the incredible matches that have been played over the years at the Australian Open, and more recently on Rod Laver Arena. Everyone brings their best tennis to the Grand Slams.

As Sinner is crowned the Australian Open champion once more, the 23-year-old follows in the footsteps of Laver and a select group of Rolex Testimonees who have won the tournament, including Chris Evert, Stefan Edberg, Jim Courier, Roger Federer, Justine Henin, Li Na, Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki.
