ROLEX AND THE 2024 GOODWOOD REVIVAL HONOUR MOTORING LEGACIES WITH DEVOTION AND STYLE
Goodwood Motor Circuit, 9 September 2024 – In typically English conditions, ever-changing skies greeted spectators as they arrived at the Goodwood Revival from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 September. Undeterred by the onset of Autumn, guests embraced the three-day spectacle with unwavering enthusiasm and high spirits. This year, Rolex celebrates its 20th anniversary of partnership with the Goodwood Revival, supporting the event’s timeless appreciation of a bygone era and the mechanical and fashion innovations that continue to thrive today. The Swiss watchmaker is the Official Timepiece of the Goodwood Revival and Title Sponsor of the Rolex Drivers' Club, a much-loved space which truly embodies the theatrical occasion.
Throughout the grounds the air was filled with the roar of engines and captivating performances, and the Duke of Richmond’s exacting attention to detail continues to be at the heart of the festivities. This edition, the immersive Rolex Drivers' Club paid homage to winter sports, featuring an Alpine-inspired ski chalet, a bobsleigh team and snow-covered pine trees. During the weekend it was here that drivers and families sought shelter from the conditions and reminisced about days gone by. On track, vehicles from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s showcased their enduring sophistication and prowess, decades after their creation. While the Revival pays tribute to the past, it also embraces a forward-looking approach; the introduction of sustainable fuel across all 13 races solidified the event as the world’s first historic motor sport gathering to conduct racing exclusively in this way.
Celebrated as Revival Royalty, Rolex Testimonee and three-time FIA Formula 1® Drivers' World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart marked the 55th anniversary of his first World Championship win at Monza, Italy, this past weekend. Coinciding with this milestone, Sir Jackie unveiled the new home for the original Tyrrell Shed – the iconic garage where his 1971 and 1973 World Championship-winning vehicles were built. Following meticulous restoration, the shed has been moved to the Goodwood Motor Circuit to preserve its legacy and create a truly memorable step back in time. Reflecting on this magical moment and his illustrious career with Tyrrell, Sir Jackie shares:
The Duke of Richmond fondly adds:
Often found enjoying the company of fellow racing drivers, Rolex Testimonee and nine-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Tom Kristensen competed in a number of exciting races this year. Having graced the Goodwood Motor Circuit for over a decade, Kristensen shares his admiration for the event:
Bringing the event to a close, Rolex presented the Driver of the Meeting with a specially engraved Oyster Perpetual Datejust. Having displayed remarkable skill in upholding the sport's tradition, this year the accolade was awarded to Oliver Bryant who placed first in the Sussex Trophy and the Whitsun Trophy. As dusk descended, the festivities continued at the retro-themed carnival situated Over the Road from the Goodwood Motor Circuit, bidding farewell to another year of one of the greatest historic motor sport gatherings.
ROLEX AND MOTOR SPORT
Rolex’s close ties with motor sport date back to Sir Malcolm Campbell’s World Land Speed Record successes in the 1930s, when he became the first driver to break the 300 mph barrier (483 km/h) at the wheel of his car, Bluebird. Since then, Rolex’s presence in motor racing has grown steadily, its support extending to revered endurance events such as the Rolex 24 At DAYTONA, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship. In 2013, Rolex became associated with Formula 1®, the pinnacle of motor sport, having supported Rolex Testimonee Sir Jackie Stewart since 1968. The three-time FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion has been joined by fellow high achievers from the world of motor sport: Tom Kristensen, the record nine-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner, Mark Webber, the multiple Formula 1® race winner and 2015 FIA World Endurance Champion, and Jenson Button, 2009 FIA Formula 1® Drivers’ World Champion. Most recently, Jamie Chadwick, Indy NXT driver, three-time W Series Champion and the sport’s most exciting young female talent, became part of the Rolex family. The brand also has a global appreciation for classic automotive events steeped in elegance, beauty and tradition, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and the Goodwood Revival.
